Desert Craft is a brand promoted by artisan's organization of Western Rajasthan, a not-for-profit Trust based in the Bikaner district of Western Rajasthan. Through our range of products we strive to give quality and a fair deal to both the customer and the rural producer. Our products include hand woven, hand embroidery, art of mirror embroidery, traditional skill of tie & dye (Bandhej), lakh jwelleries, accessories, puppets and leather products including Mojari's. Desert Craft Trust - started as the social development initiative of the crafts persons - began its work in the Bikaner district with the objective of "To provide sustainable livelihoods to the poorest of the poor".
Our product-range is based on a two-pronged approach: to work with locally available skills and resources; and to introduce new capacities.

We produce and market hand woven and hand embroidered textiles. Our products are marketed under the brand name Desert Craft. Besides our own product range, we also market products that are relevant for the communities we work with. These could be products that reduce the expenditure of local families or that serve a development purpose: such as puppets, lakh jewelleries, accessories etc.

Our organization is Registered under Rajasthan Public Trust Act Under Devasthan Department (assistant charity commissioner) Bikaner.

The Objectives

The Desert Craft began employment generation programme with a view to provide sustainable livelihoods to the poorest of the poor. The programme has the following objectives.

To increase income levels by developing sustainable income generation through promote traditional handicrafts.
To identify viable and profitable off-farm income generation programmes.
To institute systems whereby the programmes can sustain themselves and promote local organizations to run programmes independently.
To enable artisans to earn independent incomes.
To initiate training programmes for skill development to enable poor families to undertake income generation activities.
